History

The exact age of Edgcott House is unknown, but it is believed to date from the 17th century. It may have started as a Somerset long house and over the years has been altered and grown into the house you see today.

We are trying to build up the history of Edgcott House and so far we know that the Master of the Devon and Somerset Stag Hounds in 1911, Morland Greig lived in the house before he was killed commanding his squadron at Gallipoli.

During the second World War, Officers of the Searchlight Battery up on the hill, were stationed at Edgcott House along with the women of the ATS who lived in Nissen huts erected in the grounds,
